Trip to Coles Spring

Well it isn't Autumn now so thought  I had better update you all on what is on my walk to Coles at this time of year.

 

 The wattle is finished it's flowering for this year and now the Lady Bugs have moved in to eat any nasty bugs on it. Ants are eating a sappy bug but they would not sit still to pose a photo.

Well I did say it had been raining! Ducks weather on one side of home

But then! Despite the wind and rain being relentless for days on end a walk out the front door (finally) and the Australian Natives prove they are far more resilient and bring Sunshine to my day

 Not a local but it does pop up all on it's own and it's leaves are fabulous for flower arranging (despite me needing to wear gloves or I get an itch from this one)

I see so many things when I walk to the shop, so armed with my phone I will give you a glimpse of what I see in my world on that short walk to the supermarket

 No Koala in here today

Too busy looking up could be hazardous, but it wasn't today

Week Days,

Why is it my life never seems to care what day it is?

 Could it be that it requires rational thought, organisation and a calendar?

I am very short on all of these things

so I put them to far better use

Rational thought: Which book do I read next in this series

Organisation: Putting my fluffy slippers in the same place

Calendar: Used for straining vegetables???

 Sunday, apart from thanking God I am alive, 

I am expected to remember which one is the 3rd in the month 

to go to a bar-b-que at the Habitat, 

Sheesh!

That will be sorted now I am Secretary 

as emails will go out regularly to all members so I can keep track.

I cruise through and know it's Monday when the neighbour's children got to school 

and there are less playing outside

 unless it is a Long Weekend or a teachers day thingy

Mark goes to work, 

unless it is a holiday or a flex day or a sickie, 

so as reliable as the electricity supply in Port Stephens!

Here I get a bit lucky sometimes

"Ruby Tuesday"

is sometimes posted on Facebook wall by a friend

Mum used to go and see "The Eye Candy Surgeon" on Tuesdays. 

I stress USED to, denied that pleasure now too,

Middle of the week, If I am still on track that is

Hump Day for workers who work Mon to Fri

Creative Arts Day at the Habitat, 

but it starts at 9am and I usually figure this out about 10am

I previewed this and found out I had missed Thursday!

You would think that Blogger would have popped up a message telling me so, 

gee 

it corrects my typo's, makes me add words to my dictionary,

 barrages me with tips and tricks

saves when I don't want to save,

and even it can't keep track of the days in a week!

What hope do I have?

Well TGIF!

No

This means Mark will be home tomorrow morning, unless he is doing overtime

in which case I am back to confused again

Last day to raid Mum's bank account or have to wait till Monday 

(lucky she has a stash somewhere)

 Okay, usually handle Saturdays!

 Unless the neighbours kids have gone out, Mark is working or I am at Mum's,

 Postman doesn't come today should be a tip, but that could just mean no mail today

Football is on the television, but I don't watch it

Seventh Day Adventist are in church, but I am not one

 and the mother of all questions that I dread to be asked 

"What is the date"

Like I'd know!

So if you see me wandering the streets, 

don't ask the date,

just smile, say Hi and 

tell me what day it is please!

Bumper Stickers

Well, I am known for "off the straight and narrow ", "quirky" or simply have too much time on my hands 

but these amuse, fascinate and sometimes, 

although not often,offend .

If you are expecting any profanity, language or similar content then 

stop go back, you have come to the wrong place!

A bumper sticker is an adhesive label or sticker with a message,

intended to be attached to the bumper of an automobile 

and to be read by the occupants of other vehicles

So what constitutes a good Bumper Sticker?

ANZAC DAY Lest we forget

 

ANZAC Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day we remember all Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. The spirit of ANZAC, with its human qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. On ANZAC day, ceremonies are held in towns and cities across the nation to acknowledge the service of our veterans

In military tradition, the Last Post is the bugle call that signifies the end of the day's activities. It is also sounded at military funerals to indicate that the soldier has gone to his final rest and at commemorative services such as ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.

So what it about this stunning piece of Port Stephens that I love so much?

All of it!

From the magnificent gates

'The Entrance Gates'

which were built by unemployed workers during the Depression  

 to commemorate the centenary in 1931 of the land grant to the Caswells,

To the unique, and sometimes confusing,

layout of the township itself

being based on Walter Burley Griffin's plan for Canberra with a central 

'Avenue of the Allies' 

which all roads radiate from, 

which simply means all roads go round!

Koala in a local street

The streets remind us of WW1 veterans with names like Diggers Drive. Navy Nook

Convict built Tanilba house, 1837, was the home of William Caswell who was granted 50 acres in 1831 for his service in the Napoleonic wars.

and so we also have such as President Wilson Walk, Poilus Parade and Clemenceau Crescent

The name means "place of white flowers" and we are blessed with the sight of Flannel Flowers growing wild and heralding in another season.

and our numerous wild flowers that make every season special
